In Somerset there is now one intake at the beginning of the Autumn Term and another at the beginning of the Spring Term. Children may be admitted in September of the year when they are five; the selection year runs from 1 September to 31 August.Although most children begin in September the 'Code of Practice on Admissions ' expects authorities to offer a deferred entry policy for children due to start school in September. Somerset LEA is giving parents of children who were born between 1st April and 31st August the option of deferring their child's admission into school until the beginning of the Spring Term.
In Somerset Information Guides for Children Starting School are available from the first week of September, closing dates for applications is mid October. By the end of January you will be informed whether your application has been successful.
Before your child is due to start school, please visit us and take a preliminary look at the school. All Sparrows (Reception Class) are invited to spend several half days in school the term before they start.
