PDF: Photographic Policy
PDF: Consent Form (Appendix A)
RATIONALE
The Data Protection Act 1998 is relevant to the recording and use of children's images. For children under 16 years of age permission needs to be obtained from parent/guardian/carer, for the recording and use of their child's image by the school and the press. Children should also be consulted prior to the image being taken to ascertain their wishes.
Some parents may be particularly concerned about their children being named in the press, therefore a specific PDF: consent form (Appendix A) is needed. Provided no objections are received from the parent or the child, there is no reason why a child should not be photographed and first name mentioned in the press. Children will not be named if their photographs are used on our website.
CONDITIONS OF USE
The Consent Form (appendix A) is valid for one year. If a parent/carer changes their mind about giving consent to any of the conditions during the course of the school year, they should contact the school immediately.
If the school decides to take photographs or video for any other purpose than those listed on the consent form (Appendix A) the school will ask for additional consent.
Images of children will be stored securely in school. The school has no control over the way external photographers and the media store images.
The school will not include any personal details such as home phone numbers or email addresses of pupils in our publications, without seeking specific separate permission from the parent/carer in advance.
The school will only use photographs of pupils who are suitable dressed, in order to minimise any risk of misuse.
The school may use photographs of a whole class with a general label, where individual children are not identified.
IMPORTANT NOTES
A Consent form to parents/carers should be sent out with pupil registration packs. Reference should be made to the school's policy and where it can be accessed by parents.
This permission should be sought annually.
School should put a statement of their photographic policy in their prospectus/website. This policy should be reviewed regularly.
Reference should be made to PDF: 'Media Advice for Schools' document, which has been published by Somerset County Council January 06 for further advice when required. Also for Media contact numbers.
