Dear Parents and Carers,
MULTICULTURAL WORKSHOP
The 'Multicultural Britain' workshop postponed before half term has been rearranged for Friday 26th February. With Gloria Lawrence's vibrant storytelling skills and accompanying music provided by Roger Camsey, the workshop will provide the children with an unforgettable experience and will give them an understanding of how people from minority ethnic groups came to this country and settled.
TRIP TO THE EGG THEATRE
The staff and children are all looking forward to our trip to see 'The Animated Stories of Shakespeare' on Thursday. Please ensure you have signed and returned your child's permission slip to the office. Thank you.
MUSIC WEEK
We were delighted with the success of music week before half term. The children thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and were greatly encouraged by the involvement of parents and carers. Mrs Cooper was particularly pleased to award so many Practice Certificates.
KEY STAGE 2 (YEARS 3 and 4) TRIP TO WELLS CATHEDRAL
Wednesday 3rd March
The Diocesan of Bath and Wells offer a one day 'Journey' workshop for children in Key Stage 2. Further details to follow.
SCOOTER AND BICYCLE CONGESTION
We are really pleased with the number of children who currently use their scooter or bicycle to ride to school. Our School Travel Plan has secured funding that will allow us to install a bike rack for the safe storage of scooters and bicycles left at school. However, until we are able to purchase and install the rack please ensure all scooters and bicycles are parked between the two blue rear classroom doors, as close to the wall as possible, particularly as our car park is used daily by visitors to the school and needs to provide a clear means of access and egress for vehicles. Thank you for your co-operation.
GIVE IT A GO AND HOME ACCESS SCHEME
Grants and FREE Computers available if you are entitled to free school meals.
If your child(ren) are eligible for free school meals then there are some great opportunities available for them. The government have set up two schemes in the last year both now operating here in Frome. Every child on Free School Meals is entitled to £300 worth of after school or leisure activities free under the Give It A Go scheme.
All kinds of local activity organisers have joined up to 'Give It A Go' To find out what activities are available, go to the fromeactive website www.fromeactive.org.uk or contact Azeema Caffoor on 01373 452298 or e-mail Azeema@fromeactive.org.uk
The Home Access scheme is a chance for families in receipt of Free School Meals to get a free computer as well as one year's broadband access. To get hold of a computer and internet access call 03332001004 or visit www.homeaccess.org.uk Sam and Tina will be happy to help you access this website via the school's internet. Please ask at the school office for help.
Further information on free school meals eligibility is available from the school office.
SCHOOL FINISHING TIMES
Please would parents and carers ensure the prompt collection of children at 3.15 p.m. Unfortunately, teachers often have courses and meetings to attend after school and cannot guarantee to be available to care for children after 3.15pm. We do appreciate that late 'pick ups' are sometimes unavoidable and request parents / carers call the office in these circumstances. Children not collected on time are asked to wait for parents outside Mrs Tommey's office but this is not a supervised waiting area. A member of staff will always be available to ensure no child is left uncollected!.
Please discuss any regular collection difficulties with your child's class teacher. Thank you.
PERMISSION TO ADMINISTER MEDICINE
If your child needs medication during the school day it is essential that you complete a medical consent form, available outside the school office. Please note that we only able to administer prescribed medicine.
HOT LUNCHES SNOW DAY CREDITS
If you booked and paid for a meal on the days the school was closed during the snowy weather you have now been issued a credit voucher. Our caters, Mrs B's Caring Catering, have made a charge of 75p per meal cancelled to cover fixed overheads and unfortunately we must pass this charge on to parents. The value of your credit voucher has been calculated to reflect this charge.
ELECTRICTRONIC NEWSLETTER DISTRIBUTION
You will have noticed that the previous two newsletters have been distributed via book bags and not electronically. We are a pilot school for this new e-mail software and the office has identified and reported a number of technical problems that have now been resolved. So electronic newsletter distribution can now be resumed!
HOW CAN WE IMPROVE PARENT CONSULTATION MEETINGS?
Please find attached a PDF: questionnaire asking for your views on how the school can improve parent consultation meetings. Please return to the school office by Monday 1st March. Thank you.
