Dear Parents/Carers

Eagles’ Class had a wonderful authentic Victorian experience at Sevington Victorian School on Monday. Thank you to all parents and carers who supported the day by organising Victorian dress for the children and providing authentic Victorian lunches.

Christmas Nativity Play
The Christmas Nativity Play and Carol Concert will be held in the School Hall at 6pm on Wednesday 19th December. Children should arrive at 5.40pm and teachers will be available in Owls’ Class to receive them.
Due to the limited capacity of the Hall we are only able to allocate 2 seats per family in the evening.
There will be a dress rehearsal at 10.30am in the morning of Wednesday 19th to which younger siblings and other family members are invited.
We hope these arrangements will allow as many parents, carers and family members to share in this Christmas celebration with the children.

Christmas Cakes
Mrs Barnwell has kindly made mini Xmas cakes for each child in Reception and Year 1. The Children will each decorate a cake in class and bring it home gift wrapped for Xmas.
Mrs Barnwell would like to ask for a donation of £1 from each child, which will then be donated to FORS. Please send in your donation in an envelope with your child’s name to the school office.
Mrs Barnwell’s mini Xmas cakes will also be available to purchase at the Christmas Fayre on Friday.

Christmas Lunch
We are delighted to announce that Mrs B’s Kitchen is up and running again and we are moving swiftly towards offering hot school dinners after Christmas. As an introduction we will be providing all children with a traditional Christmas Dinner on Thursday 20th December free of charge. The Christmas Dinner menu will be sent home next week, which will include a vegetarian option. Further information on the arrangements for hot dinners including menus for the New Year will follow shortly.

Children’s Christmas Party
The children’s party will also be on Thursday 20th December during the afternoon. Children may wear party clothes to school on that day.

Extreme Weather Procedures
Please find attached a letter explaining the procedures to be followed in the event of extreme weather during the winter months. Please retain the letter for future reference.

After School Clubs next term
Thank you to all parents who completed our questionnaire on the provision of after school clubs. The five most popular requests were:
French/MFL, Dance, Music, Capoeira and Yoga Bugs.
We are actively sourcing provision in these areas. There will be a capoeira demonstration at Smiley assembly on Wednesday 12th December. We need 20 children to make this club financially possible with 7 children already expressing an interest.

Art Club
Emma will be continuing with Art Club in the New Year on Thursdays from 3.15 – 4.15pm. The Club will run for 10 weeks commencing on 17th January and finishing on 3rd April. The cost will be £2.50 per child per session - £25.00 for the term. Please complete the attached return slip by Friday 14th December. As this has proved to be such a popular club attracting a large number of children, Emma needs to secure additional parents to help each week. Two parents per session would be ideal. Please let Emma know if you are available to help on any Thursday session. Children will be free at sessions their parent help at as part of the helpers’ rota.

FORS Christmas Fayre
Friday 7th December
5.30 – 7.30pm
Lucky socks, bottles, mince pies, Christmas cake and cakes are still needed and can brought to school tomorrow (Friday).
Please do come along and enjoy a festive evening, a mince pie and glass of mulled wine.

Sparrows’ Class Heating
Good news, the heating in Sparrows’ Class is now working again and Sparrows will be back in their Classroom as normal on Friday. Thank you to all parents for your patience over the last few weeks whilst we have had the heater replaced, commissioned and teething problems resolved.

Muscular Dystrophy – stamps
Rhys and Nia Treasure are still collecting stamps for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Stamps can be placed in the collecting box on the table outside the office. Thank you.

Reminder – Butterfly Ball
Friday morning at 9.30 Reception parents are invited to the Butterfly Ball where Sparrows will be performing their caterpillar dance.

Mothers’ Union Appeal
Philip and Lizzie Hawthorn are supporting the local Mothers Union appeal for gifts for women who will be in the Women’s Refuge in Bath this Christmas. Details attached.

Christmas School Holiday
We finish at 3.15pm on Friday 21st December and return on Monday 7th January 2008.
