When we planted the woodland gardens, we wanted to create a very natural and wild feeling. This is greatly enhanced by the mature trees which surround the gardens, and the old stone wall behind them.

A wooden nest box has been placed high up in one of the trees and blue tits and other small birds can regularly be seen showing interest around the hole. A small, rather 'rustic' bench has been placed towards the back and the school children enjoy this very private and shaded area, particularly in the summer. There are also some lovely views of virtually the whole gardens from here.

Many of the plants used here and tolerant of semi-shade and include buddleia, ferns, geums, hardy geraniums, pulminaria (lungwort), solomon's seal (polygonatum) and violas.
