This is perhaps the most shady part of the school gardens and so therefore it seemed to lend itself perfectly for ferns. Although at first glance the ferns all look quite similar, there are actually around ten different varieties spread around this spot, including some huge specimens and some rather nice smaller evergreen ferns.

The Fern Gardens can be reached by using the bark mulch pathway behind the Fairy Gardens and are also home to a number of other woodland-style plants, which seem very at home in the shade. We have planted a ground-covering cumfrey here, which is especially vigorous, as well as some native plants and springtime bulbs, including lots of bluebells.
