Friendly Football Match Rode School verses Berkley Thursday 17th July 2008
Team Rode: Maisha, Izzy, Rhys, Will W, Oliver, Daniel, Emmy, Bethany, Avalon, Matthew, Stefan, William A, Will S and Ethan
Once again the sun shone down on us for another energetic football match and I was overwhelmed at the number of Rode children, both boys and girls ranging from year 2 to year 4 who were keen to play - a big thank you to all those who turned out. If only Mrs. Weston had remembered to bring a football!! All was not lost, having interrupted a friendly kick around that two young lads were having on the pitch we then persuaded them to let us borrow their football which saved me a jog back to school for the second time.
William A was Captain and Will S was in goal. A great start to the game with Berkley quickly taking a shot at the goal and Will S successfully saving it. Berkley suffered an injury but the player bravely played on. Some near misses and great saves by Berkley but Rode couldn't be held back with one goal each by Daniel, Oliver, William A and Stefan. Following a great run with the ball by Luka (Berkley), Berkley scored making the score 4 - 1 to Rode. There then followed some near misses by both teams and subsequently 3 goals by Daniel, Stefan and Oliver respectively. Berkley fought on with a great save, sending the ball back towards Luka who skillfully navigated the ball back down the pitch and scored making the score at half time 7 - 2 to Rode.
Into the second half. Will Wright took the position of goal keeper. Oliver was quick to score again for Rode and then again! Daniel followed suit and also scored 2 goals in succession followed by further goals by William A and Stefan bringing the score to 13 - 2. A goal by Berkley triggered Bethany to give our defence team a talk to ensure they were alert and ready - well done Bethany. Following a goal by William A, Izzy single handedly tackled several Berkley players - it was spectacular. William A scored again taking the score to 15 - 3. Luka took aim and just missed again and then there was another good tackle by Rhys. Throughout the game there was some great defending by Emmy, Matthew and Maisha. Despite numerous saves by Will W Berkley managed to sneak three more goals passed him. Three more goals by Stefan and a further goal by William Abrought the final score to 19 - 6.
A fantastic game and a great score. Rhys and Ethan get a special mention, their football skills have really developed since our last game - well done boys, keep up the good work. Well done too, to Bethany and Avalon our youngest female players, it's great to have you in the team. Finally a big thank you to our brilliant referee, Ted and Annie's brother Peter. Thanks once again to parents and ex-pupils for your support, it was good to see you all there.
