Capoeira is one of the more unusual clubs that we are lucky enough to offer. This African-Brazilian martial art involves playing musical instruments, singing and dancing, being played as a game and teaching the children how to apply both techniques and strategy.
All children are able to join this club and will be required to wear their P.E. kit.. The Capoeira Club costs £22 for 10 sessions, starting 8th May.
Rode School Art Club: Tuesday - 15:15 to 16:15

Comments from a parent of Rode School:
The Benefits of Capoeira:
Since my daughter has taken up Capoeira, apart from being extremely fun and ensuring a good night's sleep after training (that's the benefit for us parents!), we have noticed she is much more flexible than she used to be. Her coordination has improved and most of all, her ability to focus and concentrate is better. Also, she is thrilled when she has the opportunity to use the instruments during the Roda, which ties in nicely with her drum lessons. This is a great mix of fun, music, singing, dancing and martial arts.
Capoeira has all the advantages of any martial arts form, in terms of confidence building, self discipline and exercise, but none of the disadvantages, i.e. it is not aggressive in any way and participants 'play' Capoeira, rather than fight. This involves team work, and nurturing other less experienced participants is also a very important element. Some of the physical feats that experienced practitioners are able to achieve are quite extraordinary and great fun for kids (of all ages!) to see and aspire to. I cannot recommend it highly enough - it's just great fun!
